4GR-FSE ENGINE CONTROL: SFI SYSTEM: P0200-P0206, P12FF: Injector Circuit / Open
P12FF - Electric Driver Unit

DESCRIPTION

The high speed activation of the high pressure fuel injector is possible through the high-voltage, rapid-recharge DC/DC converter. Using high pressure fuel, the atomized fuel's injection timing can be accurately controlled, which decreases emissions and fuel consumption. The steady ECM checks the injector driver movement. When the injector driver or injector has a malfunction, the injection control of the relevant cylinder is stopped or power to the injector relay is cut. Then the ECM illuminates the MIL and sets a DTC.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The injector driver sends the injector injection confirmation signal (INJF) to the Engine Control Module (ECM). Using this signal, the ECM monitors the fuel injector operation. If the ECM receives no INJF signal in 20 consecutive crankshaft rotations, the ECM illuminates the MIL and sets a DTC immediately. Then, the ECM aborts the fuel injection of the appropriate cylinder, or turns off the injector relay to shut the injector driver power source.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.

3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

4. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

5. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.

6. Start the engine.

7. Idle the engine for 15 seconds or more [A].

8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes [B].

9. Read Pending DTCs.

HINT
- If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

11. Input the DTC: P0200, P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204, P0205, P0206 or P12FF.

12. Check the DTC judgment result.

HINT
- If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform steps [A] and [B] again.

13. If no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

HINT
- If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

HINT
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

(e) Read the DTCs.

Result:

B -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - INJECTOR DRIVER)
A -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

(a) Disconnect the injector driver (EDU) connectors.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance (Check for Open):
