XB147 - Power to Pump Circuit: Intermittent Short to Ground
- Key "OFF".
- Visually check the power-to-pump circuit from the Variable Control Relay Module (VCRM) to the fuel pump, the Fuel Pump Monitor (FPM) circuit to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the power-to-pump circuit to the High Speed Fuel Pump (HFP) relay.
- Start engine.
CAUTION: While performing this test, do not touch any moving/hot engine parts.
- Check for engine stall/stumble while performing the following test. If possible, listen for the fuel pump turning off.
- A fuel pressure gauge could also be installed and monitored.
- The VCRM Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) will turn the fuel pump off if a short to ground is detected.
- Shake, wiggle, bend the power-to-pump circuit from the VCRM to the fuel pump, PCM and HFP relay.
- Lightly tap on the Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch, Fuel Pump, HFP relay and VCRM (to simulate road shock).
- Key "OFF".
- Is a fault indicated?
Yes -- Isolate fault and service as necessary. Clear continuous memory (Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 583 should have been set). Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
