F - Forward/Backward Sliding Operation Does Not Work Properly
Pinpoint Test F: Forward/Backward Sliding Operation Does Not Work ProperlyNOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to perform the following pinpoint test without the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) tester 007-00500 or equivalent.
F1 - Check Seat Motor Forward/Backwards Operation
- Disconnect power motor connector.
- Using a jumper wire connected to battery positive, connect other end to driver seat module connector pin C3-4, circuit 981 (R/W), passenger seat power seat motor connector pin 4, circuit 987 (R/W) passenger seat.
- Using a second jumper wire, connect one end to driver seat module connector pin C1-1, circuit 980 (Y/W), passenger seat power seat motor connector pin 1, circuit 986 (Y/W), momentarily connect other end to a known good ground
- Observe motor operation as jumper wire is grounded.
- Reverse jumper wires and observe motor operation.
Did seat move properly?
YES LEAVE jumper wires connected to supply, being careful to not touch ground. GO to F2.
NO REPLACE power seat motor assembly. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
F2 - Check Power Seat Forward/Backward Circuits
- Reconnect power seat motor.
- Disconnect seat regulator control switch.
- Using a jumper wire connected to battery positive, connect other end to driver seat switch connector pin 5 (Town Car), 1 (Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis), circuit 981 (R/W), passenger seat switch connector pin 5 (Town Car), 1 (Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis), circuit 987 (R/W).
- Using a second jumper wire, connect one end to driver seat switch connector pin 7, circuit 980 (Y/W), passenger seat switch connector pin 7, Circuit 986 (Y/W), momentarily connect other end to a known good ground.
- Observe motor operation as jumper wire is grounded.
- Reverse jumper wires and observe motor operation.
Did seat move properly?
YES TEST power seat switch. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE suspect circuit for open RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
