DTC B1687: Dome Lamp Input Short To Battery

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to perform the following pinpoint test without the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) tester 007-00500 or equivalent.

B1687-1 - Repeat Self Test

- Make sure that all switches are off.
- Clear DTCs.
- Repeat on-demand self test.

Is DTC B1687 still present?

YES GO to B1687-3.
NO GO to B1687-2.

B1687-2 - Check Switch

NOTE: Switch is momentary. PID will read off even if lights are on unless switch is held in.

- Set NGS tester to read PID DOMESW.
- Toggle dome lamp switch several times.

Does PID show that switch is on while it is pressed and off when released as expected?

B1687-3 - Check Switch PID

- Read PID DOMESW.

Does PID show that switch is off?

YES REPLACE headlamp switch. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE Circuit 1034 (BK/W) for short to battery. RESTET system.
