Pinpoint Test J: Poor Image Quality
Normal Operation
With the gear selector in REVERSE (R) position, a reverse signal is sent from the Instrument Cluster (IC) to the Audio Control Module (ACM) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN), enabling the system. The video signal from the video camera displays an image on the Front Display Interface Module (FDIM). With the ignition switch in the RUN position, the video camera receives voltage through circuit CBP41 (BU) and grounded through circuit GD133 (BK).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Video camera
PINPOINT TEST J: POOR IMAGE QUALITY
NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings. Refer to Battery.
-------------------------------------------------
J1 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
- Disconnect: Video Camera C4357.
- Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-6, circuit GD133 (BK) or (WH) (with luggage switch), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to J2.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
J2 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-4, circuit (CLEAR), harness side and ground and video camera C4357-5, circuit (BK), harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to J3.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
J3 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VIDEO SHIELD
- Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-4, circuit (CLEAR), harness side and video camera C4357-2, circuit (OG), harness side.
- Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-5, circuit (BK), harness side and video camera C4357-2, circuit (OG), harness side.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to J4.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
J4 CHECK VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: FDIM C2123.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between the video camera C4357-4, circuit (CLEAR), harness side and the video camera C4357-5, circuit (BK), harness side.
- Measure the resistance between the FDIM C2123-3, circuit VMP19 (WH/GN), harness side and the FDIM C2123-9, circuit RMP19 (BN/VT), harness side.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
REMOVE the jumper wire. CARRY OUT the video camera component test. If the camera is inoperative, INSTALL a new video camera. REFER to Video Camera Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation. Component Test - Video Camera
No
REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to J5.
-------------------------------------------------
J5 CHECK VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUIT VMP19 (WH/GN) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the FDIM C2123-3, circuit VMP19 (WH/GN), harness side and the video camera C4357-4, circuit (CLEAR), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit (BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit (CLEAR). TEST the system for normal operation.
