Pinpoint Test N: The Speed Control Sensor Is Obstructed or Blocked
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 31, Speed Control for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
NOTE: The speed control sensor is also known as the forward looking sensor.
Normal Operation
The adaptive cruise control system is enabled when the vehicle speed is set and the speed control sensor, which is a radar unit, determines the distance and relative speed of the vehicle that is in the path of travel. The adaptive cruise control system has limited performance in rain and snow conditions. The radar unit can be blocked or obstructed due to these types of weather conditions.
- DTC C1A67:97 (Forward Looking Sensor: Component Or System Obstructed Or Blocked) - set by the C-CM as a continuous memory and on-demand DTC if the C-CM detects an obstruction or if the sensor is blocked.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Speed control sensor
PINPOINT TEST N: THE SPEED CONTROL SENSOR IS OBSTRUCTED OR BLOCKED
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
-------------------------------------------------
N1 INSPECT SPEED CONTROL SENSOR FASCIA COVER (EARLY BUILD) OR FRONT BUMPER COVER (LATE BUILD) FOR DAMAGE
- Inspect for damage on the front and back of the speed control sensor fascia cover (early build) or front bumper cover (late build) and foam.
- Is the speed control sensor fascia cover (early build) or front bumper cover (late build) damaged?
Yes
REPAIR or REPLACE the speed control sensor fascia cover (early build) or the front bumper cover (late build) as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, GO to N3.
No
GO to N2.
-------------------------------------------------
N2 INSPECT SPEED CONTROL SENSOR AND FASCIA COVER (EARLY BUILD) OR FRONT BUMPER COVER (LATE BUILD) FOR DEBRIS, MOISTURE, SNOW OR ICE
- Inspect for debris, moisture, snow or ice on the front and back of the speed control sensor fascia cover (early build) or front bumper cover (late build) and sensor.
- Is the speed control sensor obstructed or blocked?
Yes
REMOVE the fascia cover (early build) or front bumper cover (late build). CLEAN the sensor fascia cover (early build) or front bumper cover (late build), fascia foam and sensor as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to N3.
-------------------------------------------------
N3 CARRY OUT THE VERTICAL ALIGNMENT
- Carry out the alignment procedures for the speed control sensor. Refer to Speed Control Sensor Adjustment Adjustments.
- Is the obstructed or blocked sensor concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new speed control sensor. REFER to Speed Control Sensor Service and Repair. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern was caused by a misaligned sensor.
