Pinpoint Test B: DTC U1041

Normal Operation
- DTC U1041 (SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Vehicle Speed) - sets when the Lighting Control Module (LCM) receives invalid data within the vehicle speed message or if the vehicle speed message is missing for 5 seconds or longer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Module communication
- LCM
- Instrument Cluster (IC)


PINPOINT TEST B: DTC U1041

B1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN


- Ignition ON.
- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.
- Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to B2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

B2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK


- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
- Does the LCM and the IC pass the network test?

Yes
GO to B3.

No
REFER to Module Communications Network Testing and Inspection.

B3 RECHECK THE LCM DTCs


NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out.

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the LCM self-test.
- Is DTC U1041 still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new LCM. REFER to Lighting Control Module (LCM) Lighting Control Module (LCM). TEST the system for normal operation.

If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new Instrument Cluster (IC). REFER to Instrumentation, Message Center, and Warning Chimes Instrument Cluster (IC).

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.
