Removal
WARNING: Always carry or place a live air bag module with the air bag and deployment door/trim cover/tear seam pointed away from the body. Do not set a live air bag module down with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam face down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: Do not paint any air bag module trim covers or deployment doors. Paint may cause the air bag to deploy incorrectly. Failure to follow this instruction may increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. Depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures information.
2. Position the steering column in the full down position.
3. Remove the instrument cluster finish panel. For additional information, refer to the Removal and Installation portion in Instrument Panel and Console Instrument Cluster Finish Panel.
4. Disconnect the glove compartment assist cable, push in the sides of the glove compartment to release the glove compartment stops and lower the glove compartment.
5. Disconnect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
1. Push the passenger air bag module electrical connector together.
2. Push down, pivoting the electrical connector retainer and release the electrical connector retainer.
3. Pull out, disconnecting the vehicle harness end of the connector from the component end.
6. Remove the 2 passenger air bag module bolts.
7. NOTICE: Do not handle the passenger air bag module by grabbing the edges of the deployment doors. Damage to the air bag module may occur.
Push the passenger air bag module out from the instrument panel.
- Release the retaining clips and alignment pins from the instrument panel. The retaining clips are located at the upper LH and RH corners, and the alignment pins at the lower LH and RH corners of the passenger air bag module deployment door.
Installation
1. Make sure the J-clips on the back of the passenger air bag module are fully seated into the slots.
2. Make sure the retaining clips on the back of the passenger air bag module are fully seated onto the ears.
3. NOTICE: Do not handle the passenger air bag module by grabbing the edges of the deployment doors. Damage to the air bag module may occur.
Install the passenger air bag module into the instrument panel.
- Make sure the 2 retaining clips are fully seated into the instrument panel. The passenger air bag module should have a flush fit and finish up against the instrument panel.
4. Install the 2 passenger air bag module bolts.
- Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
5. Connect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
6. Push in the sides of the glove compartment to engage the glove compartment stops, connect the glove compartment assist cable and close the glove compartment.
7. Install the instrument cluster finish panel. For additional information, refer to the Removal and Installation portion in Instrument Panel and Console Instrument Cluster Finish Panel.
8. Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures information.
