PINPOINT TEST C: THE SELECTOR LEVER LINKAGE IS BINDING OR WILL NOT MOVE

C1 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENTS FOR DAMAGE


- Gain access to the selector lever components.
- Ignition In ACC.
- Apply the brake pedal.
- Observe all selector lever components while attempting to move the selector lever through all ranges.
- Are any of the components damaged?

Yes
REPAIR as necessary. REINSTALL all components. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to C2.

C2 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT OPERATION WITH THE SELECTOR LEVER CABLE DISCONNECTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION


- Ignition OFF.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the manual control lever.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Ignition In ACC.
- Apply the brake pedal.
- Observe the selector lever components while attempting to move the selector lever through all ranges.
- Do the components move in a fluid motion through all ranges?

Yes
REFER to Automatic Transaxle/Transmission - 4R70E/4R75E Overhaul for internal transmission repair.

No
GO to C3.

C3 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT OPERATION WITH THE SELECTOR LEVER CABLE DISCONNECTED FROM THE STEERING COLUMN


- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever arm and support.
- Ignition In ACC.
- Apply the brake pedal.
- Observe the selector lever components while attempting to move the selector lever through all ranges.
- Do the components move without restriction through all ranges?

Yes
INSTALL a new selector lever cable and bracket. REFER to Selector Lever Cable and Bracket Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REFER to Steering Column Overhaul for steering column repair.
