Pinpoint Test N: The Autolock Does Not Operate Correctly
Normal Operation
The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module energizes the lock relay based upon input from the ajar switches, the Transmission Range (TR) sensor, and the vehicle speed signal. The RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module receives the vehicle speed signal and the TR (Transmission Range) sensor input from the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). The RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module locks the doors when the following conditions are met:
- All the doors are closed
- The ignition is in the RUN mode
- The vehicle is shifted into any gear putting the vehicle in motion
- The vehicle attains a speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph)
- DTC U0423:68 (Invalid Data Received From Instrument Panel Control Module: Event Information)- a continuous DTC that sets if the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module receives an invalid data message from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) for the TR (Transmission Range) sensor input or engine data.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Door ajar switches
- Vehicle speed signal
- TR (Transmission Range) sensor input
- RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module
PINPOINT TEST N : THE AUTOLOCK DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
N1 CHECK THE AUTOLOCKS CONFIGURATION
- Check to see if the autolocks are enabled. Refer to Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming .
Are the autolocks enabled?
Yes
GO to N2.
No
ENABLE the autolocks. REFER to Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming . TEST the system for normal operation.
N2 CHECK THE RECORDED RFA (Remote Function Actuator) MODULE AND IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST
- Check the recorded results from the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module and IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.
Is DTC U0423:68 present?
Yes
RETRIEVE and REPAIR all non-network DTCs in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to N3.
N3 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION
- Open and close each door while observing the courtesy lamp operation.
Do the courtesy lamps operate correctly?
Yes
GO to N4.
No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.
N4 CHECK THE VEHICLE SPEED OPERATION
- Check the operation of the speedometer.
Does the speedometer operate correctly?
Yes
GO to N5.
No
REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
N5 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION RANGE INDICATOR
- Observe the PRNDL display while moving the shift lever through each gear position.
Does the PRNDL display operate correctly?
Yes
GO to N6.
No
REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
N6 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA (Remote Function Actuator) MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
