Pinpoint Test F: DTC P0AFB:17
High-Voltage Converter/Inverter
Pinpoint Test F: DTC P0AFB:17
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 12, Charging System for schematic and connector information. [1][2]Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
The DC to DC Converter Control Module (DC/DC) monitors the high voltage available from the High Voltage Traction Battery (HVTB). If the DC/DC (DC to DC Converter Control Module) senses high voltage of greater than 360 volts, it will set DTC P0AFB:17 and request the CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM message be displayed in the message center. The DC/DC (DC to DC Converter Control Module) will be in standby mode (DC/DC (DC to DC Converter Control Module) disabled) until the high voltage condition clears, resulting in the 12-volt battery eventually becoming drained. Reduced or no functionality of 12-volt systems (headlamps, HVAC blower motor, etc.) may also be noticed.
- DTC P0AFB:17 (Hybrid Battery System Voltage High: Circuit Voltage Above Threshold)- Sets when the DC/DC (DC to DC Converter Control Module) senses HVTB (High Voltage Traction Battery) voltage of greater than 360 volts.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- HVTB (High Voltage Traction Battery) system fault
- High-voltage cables
PINPOINT TEST F : DTC P0AFB:17
F1 CHECK THE TCM (Transmission Control Module) AND AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR MODULE FOR HIGH VOLTAGE OVER-VOLTAGE DTCs
- Ignition ON.
- Connect the scan tool.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- TCM (Transmission Control Module) , and record the results.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- ACCM (Air Conditioning Compressor Module).
Is Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTC P0A78:17, P0A7A:17, P1A07:16, P0A07:62 and/or Air Conditioning Compressor Module (ACCM) DTC P0AFB:17 present?
Yes
GO to F2.
No
DEPOWER the HVTB (High Voltage Traction Battery). REFER to Hybrid Drive Systems. INSPECT the high-voltage cable ends for arcing or terminal pull out. REPAIR as necessary. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
F2 CHECK HIGH VOLTAGE TO THE DC/DC (DC to DC Converter Control Module) USING PID HEV HIGH VOLTAGE BUS-MEASURED (HEVHiVolt)
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: DataLogger- DC/DC (DC to DC Converter Control Module).
- Monitor the DC/DC (DC to DC Converter Control Module) PID HEVHiVolt.
Does the PID read less than 360 volts?
Yes
CARRY OUT self-test of the Battery Energy Control Module (BECM). REFER to Hybrid Drive Systems for further diagnosis of the BECM (Battery Energy Control Module) DTCs. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
DEPOWER the HVTB (High Voltage Traction Battery). REFER to Hybrid Drive Systems. INSPECT the high-voltage cable ends for arcing or terminal pull out. REPAIR as necessary. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
