Expansion Block/Orifice Tube: Service and Repair




EVAPORATOR CORE ORIFICE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

Removal

1. Recover the refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant System Tests.

2. Access and disconnect the condenser to evaporator line spring lock coupling from the evaporator core inlet. See Description and Operation.

- Discard the O-ring seals.






3. Inspect the evaporator core orifice for damage.






4. Engage the special tool to the evaporator core orifice.






5. Holding the special tool T-handle stationary, rotate the special tool body to remove the evaporator core orifice.






6. Screw the end of the special tool into the broken evaporator core orifice.






7. Holding the special tool T-handle stationary, rotate the special tool body to remove the broken evaporator core orifice.






Installation

1. Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean refrigerant oil. See A/C Refrigerant Oil Addition.

2. Install new O-ring seals on the evaporator core orifice.

- Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil.






3. Position the evaporator core orifice into the special tool.






4. Using the special tool, install the evaporator core orifice.






5. Connect the condenser to evaporator line spring lock coupling to the evaporator inlet. See Description and Operation. Restore any components that were removed for access.

- Install new O-ring seals lubricated with clean refrigerant oil.

6. Evacuate, leak test, and charge the refrigerant system. See A/C Refrigerant System Tests
