129. Move the manual valve detent lever to the D range.

130. Loosen the nut on the ball stud for the manual valve detent lever actuating rod component.
131. Initially tighten the nut on the ball. Remove the shifter pin.

132. Rotate the SST until the socket can be installed on the nut. Tighten the manual valve detent lever ball stud nut.

Tightening torque: 11 - 13 Nm (112 - 133 kgf-cm, 96 - 117 inch lbs.)

133. Remove the pin and SST
134. Install the manual control lever component and bolt.

Tightening torque 24 - 30 Nm (2.4 - 3.1 kgf-m, 18 - 22 ft. lbs.)

135. lnstall the transaxle range switch on the manual lever shaft. Hand-tighten the two mounting bolts.

NOTE
- The outer lever must be in the N position.

136. Use the SST to align the switch on the shaft and case.

137. Tighten the transaxle range switch bolts. Remove the SST

Tightening torque: 11 - 13 Nm (112 - 133 kgf-cm, 96 - 117 inch lbs.)

138. Install the control valve body cover gasket on the case. Attach the cover to the case.

139. Install the fourteen mounting bolts in the sequence shown.

140. Install and tighten the control valve body cover-to-transaxle case bolts.

Tightening torque
Galvanized Cover: 12 Nm (1.2 kgf-m, 9 ft. lbs.)
Black cover: 20 Nm (2.0 kgf-m, 15 ft. lbs.)

141. Install the O-ring seal on the vehicle speedometer sensor.
142. Push the vehicle speedometer sensor into the bore.
143. Install the bolt.

144. Tighten the bolt.

Tightening torque: 5 - 6 Nm (50 - 61 kgf-cm, 44 - 63 inch lbs.)

145. Install the oil filler tube seal grommet into the case.
146. Install the oil filler tube.

147. Install the mounting bolt. Tighten the mounting bolt.

Tightening torque: 7 - 9 Nm (71 - 92 kgf-cm, 62 - 80 inch lbs.)

148. Install the oil level indicator in the tube.
149. Install the turbine shaft speed sensor O-ring seal.
150. Push the turbine shaft speed sensor into the bore.
151. lnstall the mounting bolt.
152. Tighten the bolt.

Tightening torque: 12 - 14 Nm (120 - 146 kgf-cm, 104 - 127 inch lbs.)

153. Use the SST or equivalent and a hammer to install the RH and LH differential seals.

154. Use the SST or equivalent and a hammer to install the torque converter impeller hub seal spring, then verify that the seal spring has not been dislodged.

155. Apply sealant to the drain plug. Install the drain plug. Tighten the drain plug.

Tightening torque: 15 - 35 Nm (1.5 - 3.6 kgf-m, 11 - 26 ft. lbs.)

156. Install the oil pump drive shaft into the end of the turbine shaft.

157. Install the torque converter in the transaxle.

158. Remove the transaxle from the SST
159. Dry the transaxle exterior and prepare it for installation.

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE INSPECTION
TORQUE CONVERTER ONE-WAY CLUTCH INSPECTION
1. Place the torque converter on a workbench with the impeller hub facing up.
2. Place a pick in slot on the bottom of the stator.

3. While holding the bottom of the stator, rotate the inner race of the one-way clutch.
4. If the inner race rotates in both directions during this check, the stator one-way clutch is slipping.

TORQUE CONVERTER PUMP INSERT INSPECTION
1. Install the oil pump shaft into the torque converter.

2. Verify that the insert can hold 14 Nm (1.5 kgf-m, 10 ft. lbs.) of torque.
3. If the insert cannot hold specified torque, replace the torque converter.
4. Remove the oil pump shaft.

TURBINE TORQUE INSPECTION
1. Install the SSTs into the turbine splines in the torque converter.

2. Attach a torque wrench and determine the torque required to turn the turbine.
3. If the torque exceeds 8 Nm (0.8 kgf-m, 6 ft. lbs.) replace the torque converter.

TORQUE CONVERTER END PLAY INSPECTION
1. Install the SSTs into the turbine splines in the torque converter.
2. Attach a dial indicator to the SSTs.
3. Zero the needle of the dial indicator.

4. Pull up on the SSTs and observe the dial indicator reading.
5. If the end play exceeds 1.27 mm (0.05 inch), replace the torque converter.

OIL PUMP INSPECTION
1. Use the SSTs and a depth micrometer to measure the clearance between each gear and the pump body face.

2. The allowable clearance for each gear is 0.040 - 0.080 mm (O.0016 - 0.0031 inch). If the clearance exceeds the specification, replace the oil pump component.
3. Check for oil blockage.

LOW-INTERMEDIATE CARRIER COMPONENT INSPECTION

- Inspect the low-intermediate carrier component pinion gear end play. End play should be between 0.15 - 0.72 mm (0.006 - 0.028 inch).

REVERSE/FOURTH GEAR CARRIER COMPONENT

- Inspection Inspect the Reverse/fourth gear carrier component pinion gear end play. End play should be between 0.15 - 0.72 mm (O.006 - 0.028 inch).
