Engine Oil Pressure: Testing and Inspection

OIL PRESSURE INSPECTION [L5]

WARNING:
- Hot engines and engine oil can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it and the engine oil have cooled.
- A vehicle that is lifted but not securely supported on safety stands is dangerous. It can slip or fall, causing death or serious injury. Never work around or under a lifted vehicle if it is not securely supported on safety stands.
- Continuous exposure to USED engine oil has caused skin cancer in laboratory mice. Protect your skin by washing with soap and water immediately after working with engine oil.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the aerodynamic under cover No.2. Aerodynamic Under Cover No.2 Removal/Installation

3. Remove the oil pressure switch.

4. Remove the clutch release cylinder with the clutch pipe still connected so that the SSTs are installed. (MTX) Clutch Slave Cylinder

NOTE:
- This inspection can be performed using a combination of SSTs 49 0187 280A (oil pressure gauge) and 49 E019 001 (adapter), or using the following combination of the SSTs.

- 49 D019 908 (gauge), 49 D019 909 (hose), 49 D019 910 (adapter), 49 D019 911 (adapter), and 49 D019 914 (adapter)

5. Screw the SSTs into the oil pressure switch installation hole.

6. Connect the negative battery cable.

7. Start the engine while the rod of the starter interlock switch which is installed to the clutch pedal is completely pushed toward the arrow shown in the figure using a flathead screwdriver or equivalent. (MTX)

CAUTION:
- Do not depress the clutch pedal because the push rod of the clutch release cylinder could be stuck out completely. (MTX)

8. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.

9. Run the engine at the specified speed, and note the gauge readings.

- If not within the specification, inspect for the cause and repair or replace if necessary.

NOTE:
- The oil pressure can vary with oil viscosity and temperature.

Oil pressure (reference value) [oil temperature: 100 °C {212 °F}]
- 395-649 kPa {4.03-6.61 kgf/cm2, 57.3-94.1 psi} [3,000 rpm]

10. Stop the engine and wait until it is cool.

11. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

12. Remove the SSTs.

CAUTION:
- Be sure there is no sealant adhering to the first two threads from the end of the oil pressure switch to prevent a possible operation malfunction.

13. Apply silicone sealant to the oil pressure switch threads as shown in the figure.

14. Install the oil pressure switch.

Tightening torque
- 12-18 Nm {123-183 kgf-cm, 107-159 in-lbf}

15. Install the clutch release cylinder. (MTX) Clutch Slave Cylinder

16. Connect the negative battery cable.

17. Start the engine and confirm that there is no oil leakage.

- If there is oil leakage, repair or replace the applicable part.

18. Install the aerodynamic under cover No.2. Aerodynamic Under Cover No.2 Removal/Installation
