Oil Pump: Service and Repair
Prepartion
- Bottom engine compartment panel removed.
- Engine oil drained.
Overview
- Detach cable straps at bottom part of oil pan.
- Unbolt oil line (9) of automatic transmission at bottom part of oil pan (1).
Tighten to: 9 Nm.
- If Level Control Fitted: unbolt high pressure flexible hose (10) at bottom part of oil pan (1).
Tighten to: 9 Nm.
- Unbolt bottom part of oil pan (1).
Tighten to: 9 Nm.
- Clean sealing surfaces.
- Replace gasket (1a).
- Place balancing weight of 1st crankshaft journal horizontally.
- Unbolt oil level sensor (S43) at oil pump (4).
CAUTION: Models with engine 119.97, see Oil Level Sensor, Service and Repair.
- Loosen, bolt (2) of oil pump drive gear (3).
Tighten to: 28 Nm.
- Unbolt oil pump (4) at timing case cover.
Tighten to: 21 Nm.
Installation Note: Prevent tensioning spring (11) of tensioning bar from turning by inserting a screwdriver when tightening the bolt (6).
- Tilt oil pump (4) to the rear, unscrew bolt (2) and take off oil pump drive gear (3) from oil pump (4).
Installation Note: Fit on oil pump drive gear (3) with curved side toward oil pump (4) (arrows).
- Remove oil pump (4).
- Fill oil pump (4) with engine oil before installing.
CAUTION: A newly installed oil pump (4) must be filled with engine oil to ensure it draws in oil after starting.
- Remove balancing weight (4a), clean strainer.
NOTE: If the tensioning bar for the drive chain has to be replaced, the timing case cover should be removed. Service and Repair
- Installation is reverse of removal. Observe all installation notes and tightening specifications.
