Function
Locking selector lever position < P > is a sub-function of the shift-lock function. It is controlled electronically.

Selector lever remains locked in position < P > if
^ No enable is granted by the drive authorization system or
^ The brake is not operated or
^ No voltage is supplied to the EWM (N15/5).

When a valid drive authorization code is received by the electronic ignition/starter switch control module (N73) via the engine compartment bus (CAN), the EWM (N15/5) actuates the R-P blocking solenoids (89) when the brake pedal and therefore the stop lamp switch (S9/1) is operated. The signal from the stop lamp switch (S9/1) triggered is also conveyed to the EWM (N15/5) via the engine compartment bus (CAN).
The R-P-blocking solenoid (89) releases the selector lever, enabling a shift from selector lever position < P >.
