Strategy for Locating Vehicle Power and NGS Scan Tool Faults
Use the following methods to determine the VPWR and NGS Scan Tool faults.
1. Inspect circuit wires for visible breaks or shorts, loose connectors, bent or pushed out connector pins or corrosion.
2. Test vehicle battery for low voltage and current.
3. Perform the Click Test for those signals which activate relays or solenoids. Using the ACTIVE TEST function allows relays and solenoids to be activated.
4. TEST NGS SCAN TOOL
- Key ON (Key OFF if the NGS Scan Tool is powered by the battery).
- Select INTERNAL SYSTEM TESTS from the main menu.
- Select the first test from the main INTERNAL SYSTEM TESTS menu.
- Follow the displayed instructions to complete the selected test.
- Check the results displayed during or after the test.
- Press CANCEL to exit to the main INTERNAL SYSTEM TESTS menu.
- Repeat the above instructions for every test listed in the main menu of the INTERNAL SYSTEM TESTS.
- Does the NGS Scan Tool operate properly?
YES -- NGS Scan Tool is OK. PRESS CANCEL to exit to the main menu. GO to "TEST VPWR".
NO -- NGS Scan Tool is faulty and requires REPAIR.
5. TEST VPWR
- Key ON.
- Check the VPWR voltage value in PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD.
- Is the voltage value greater than 11 volts?
YES -- PROCEED with "Tests Available Using NGS Scan Tool".
NO -- CHARGE the battery.
