NGS Scan Tool Screen Display Flow

If the Rotunda New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester is powered by the battery, an initialization, and brief internal system memory check are performed right after it is hooked up.
If the NGS Tester is powered by the cigar lighter, the initialization and the brief internal system memory check are performed right after turning the key ON.
During initialization, a message of M***** indicates that the vehicle selection and recorded data from the last testing session are stored in memory.
A message of B***** indicates that memory time has been exceeded and no data is stored from the last testing session.

NOTE: If the NGS Tester is malfunctioning, the following message appears on the screen display:

The NGS Tester RAMTEST tests the recorder Random Access Memory (RAM) area. The actual RAM ADDRESS indicates the location of the NGS Tester fault. If a key is pressed, the RAMTEST continues with the next RAM ADDRESS. Each time a failure is detected in the NGS Tester recorder RAM area, the screen display shown above will be displayed.

NOTE: If the above message appears even once, the NGS Tester should be turned off immediately and returned for service.

MODE SELECTION
The Mode Select screens are the menus from which the various test modes can be selected. Technicians will return to this screen when a test is completed, and from it they can choose new tests.

NOTE: SELECT means highlighting the indicated item on the NGS screen using the menu dial and then pressing TRIGGER.
