Test C: DTC B1601 - PATS Received Incorrect Key-Code From Ignition Key Transponder
PINPOINT TEST C: DTC B1601 - PATS RECEIVED INCORRECT KEY-CODE FROM IGNITION KEY TRANSPONDERC1-C4:
C5-C7:
Normal Operation
The passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver communicates with the PATS key. During each vehicle start sequence, the PATS transceiver reads the PATS key identification code and sends the data to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster will then send a message to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM will carry out the function of controlling engine enable. The instrument cluster initiates the key interrogation sequence when the key is turned to the ON or START position.
DTC B1601 - sets when there is an unprogrammed PATS key. The concern is not with the PATS key itself, but the key must be programmed into the PATS memory (unless the maximum number of keys are already programmed).
Possible Causes
- PATS key
- PATS transceiver
- Instrument cluster
