Pinpoint Test AC: The Stability/Traction Control Disabled (Sliding Car "OFF" Icon) Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The stability/traction control is configured on/off through the traction control switch. The traction control switch is hardwired to the ABS module through a single signal circuit. When the stability/traction control is configured on or off, the ABS module sends a message to the Instrument Cluster (IC) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus indicating that the stability/traction has been enabled or disabled. The IC turns on or off the stability/traction control disabled indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon) based upon the system state.
When a MyKey(TM) programmed key is in use and the AdvanceTrac(R) on feature is configured always on, the traction control system cannot be disabled and the stability/traction control disabled (sliding car "OFF" icon) indicator does not turn on when the traction control disable button is pressed. The stability/traction control indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon) still functions normally to indicate a traction control system fault and a traction control active event.
If the stability/traction control disabled indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon) request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the stability/traction control disabled indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon) remains in the last indication state (on or off) based upon the last known good message received. If the stability/traction control disabled indicator request message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IPC sets DTC U0121 (non-hybrid) or U0129 (hybrid) in continuous memory and defaults the stability/traction control disabled indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon) off.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- A MyKey(TM) programmed key is in use
- Stability/traction control cannot be disabled
- ABS module
- IPC
PINPOINT TEST AC: THE STABILITY/TRACTION CONTROL DISABLED INDICATOR (SLIDING CAR "OFF" ICON) IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
NOTE: When a MyKey(TM) programmed key is in use and the AdvanceTrac(R) on feature is configured always on, the traction control system cannot be disabled and the stability/traction control disabled indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon) does not turn on when the traction control disable button is pressed. The stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) still functions normally to indicate a traction control system fault and a traction control active event.

AC1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
For DTC U0121, GO to Pinpoint Test AZ. For DTC U0129, GO to Pinpoint Test BA. For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Pinpoint Tests AZ: DTC U0121 Pinpoint Tests BA: DTC U0129 Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes
No
GO to AC2.
-------------------------------------------------
AC2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE ABS MODULE SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the ABS module self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Vehicle Dynamic Systems Testing and Inspection.
No
GO to AC3.
-------------------------------------------------
AC3 CHECK FOR THE KEY TYPE
- Check if the key is a MyKey(TM) programmed key or an administrator key. Refer to Anti-Theft - Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Hybrid Programming and Relearning.
- Is the key an administrator key?
Yes
GO to AC4.
No
If the MyKey(TM) AdvanceTrac(R) on feature is configured always on, the system is normal. The stability/traction control system cannot be disabled when the AdvanceTrac(R) on feature is configured always on. If the MyKey(TM) AdvanceTrac(R) on feature is not configured always on, GO to AC4.
-------------------------------------------------
AC4 CHECK THE TRACTION CONTROL INPUT TO THE ABS MODULE
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: ABS Module DataLogger.
- Select the ABS module traction control switch PID (TCYC_SW) (non-Hybrid) or (TC_SW_STAT) (Hybrid).
- Monitor the traction control PID while pressing and releasing the traction control switch.
- Does the traction control PID match the switch position?
Yes
GO to AC5.
No
REFER to Vehicle Dynamic Systems Testing and Inspection to diagnose the stability/traction control system cannot be disabled.
-------------------------------------------------
AC5 CARRY OUT THE IPC INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC DataLogger.
- Select the IPC stabilty/traction control disabled indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon) (TC_RSC_OFF) active command. Command the stabilty/traction control disabled indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon) on and off while observing the stabilty/traction control disabled indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon).
- Does the stabilty/traction control disabled indicator (sliding car "OFF" icon) illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes
INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Vehicle Dynamic Systems Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
