DTC 56

CIRCUIT OPERATION
If a fail-safe is triggered or ATF temperature is high during forward driving (D, 3, 2, L range), the PCM sends a signal of 1 Hz (triggered fail-safe) or 2 Hz (high ATF temperature) to the "N" range light, causing the "N" range light to flash.

DTC SET CONDITIONS
If the "N" range light remains off for 60 - 180 ms`` twice after the PCM has sent "N" range light flash signal before the ignition switch is turned off, the PCM will consider it as an open circuit of the "N" range light circuit and output code number 56.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
The most likely causes for this code to be set:
- Defective "N" range light bulb
- Damaged connector
- Malfunction of the PCM

DIAGNOSIS

STEP 1. Check and replace the light bulb.
Remove the combination meter to check the "N" range light bulb.
If detective, replace the bulb. Refer to Combination Meters.
If not defective, go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Check harness connector C-03 at the combination meter for damage.

If harness connector C-03 is damaged, repair or replace it. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Recheck for DTCs.
If harness connector C-03 is in good condition, go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check harness connector C-92 at the PCM for damage.

If harness connector C-92 is damaged, repair or replace it. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Recheck the DTCs.
If harness connector C-92 is in good condition, go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check the harness wire between PCM connector C-92 and combination meter connector C-03.

NOTE: After inspecting intermediate connectors C-30 and C-96, inspect the wire. If intermediate connectors C-30 and C-96 are damaged, repair or replace them. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection.

If any harness wires between PCM connector C-92 and combination meter connector C-03 is damaged, repair it. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Recheck for DTCs.
If the harness wires are in good condition, go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check harness connector C-04 at the combination meter for damage.

If harness connector C-04 is damaged, repair or replace it. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Recheck the DTCs.
If harness connector C-04 is in good condition, go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Check the harness wire between combination meter connector C-04 and ground.

If any harness wire between combination meter connector C-04 and ground is damaged, repair it. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Recheck for DTCs.
If the harness wires are in good condition, recheck for DTCs.
If the malfunction is not eliminated, replace the PCM.
