Inspection Procedure 1
Security Indicator Circuit:
Connectors:
CIRCUIT OPERATION
When the door is locked and the conditions for entering the security mode are established, the security indicator will illuminate for approx. 18 seconds and then the security mode will be entered.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
The theft-alarm system makes judgments with the following input signals using the ETACS-ECU, and then activates.
- key reminder switch
- Driver's and passenger's door switch
- Driver's and passenger's door lock key cylinder switch
- Driver's and passenger's door lock actuator switch
- Hood switch
- Liftgate latch switch
- Liftgate lock key cylinder switch
If the operation is not normal, the respective input circuit may be faulty, the security indicator may be faulty, or the ETACS-ECU may be faulty.
NOTE: The security indicator is shared by the immobilizer system. If a problem can not be resolver, observe the immobilizer system troubleshooting.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
- Malfunction of the security indicator
- Malfunction of the key reminder switch
- Malfunction of the driver's and passenger's door switch
- Malfunction of the driver's and passenger's door lock key cylinder switch
- Malfunction of the driver's and passenger's door lock actuator switch
- Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
- Damaged harness wires and connectors
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tool:
MB991223: Test Harness Set
MB991502: Scan Tool (MUT-II)
MB991529: Diagnostic Trouble Code Check Harness
STEP 1. Check the ETACS-ECU power supply circuit.
Check whether the following functions all operate normally when the ignition switch is at the "OFF" position.
- Ignition key reminder tone alarm function
- Light reminder tone alarm function
- Central door locking system
- Hazard warning light
- Dome light dimming function
If none of the functions operate, inspect the ETACS-ECU's battery circuit system.
Refer to Inspection Procedure 8.
If any of the functions operates, go to Step 2.
STEP 2. Check the security indicator circuit at the ETACS-ECU connector D-26.
1. Disconnect the ETACS-ECU connector D-26 and measure at the harness side.
2. Connect terminal 32 to the ground.
- The security indicator should illuminate.
If the security indicator does not illuminate, go to Step 3. If the security indicator illuminate, go to Step 8.
STEP 3. Check the security indicator.
If the security indicator does not illuminate, repair it. Then check that the security indicator illuminates and that the theft-alarm system operates normally.
If the security indicator is in good condition, go to Step 4.
STEP 4. Check the security indicator connector C-108 and ETACS-ECU connector D-26 for damage.
If the security indicator connector C-108 and ETACS-ECU connector D-26 are damaged, repair them. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection.Check that the security indicator illuminates and that the theft-alarm system operates normally.
If the connector are in good condition, go to Step 5.
STEP 5. Check the harness wire between security indicator connector C-108 and ETACS-ECU connector D-26.
If the harness wire between security indicator connector C-108 and ETACS-ECU connector D-26 is damaged, repair it. Check that the security indicator illuminates and that the theft-alarm system operates normally.
If the harness wire is in good condition, go to Step 6.
STEP 6. Check the harness wire between security indicator connector C-108 and fusible link number 6.
NOTE: After checking junction block connectors D-01 and D-14, joint connector C-11 and IDO or storage connector A-54X, check the wires.
If junction block connectors D-01 and D-14, joint connector C-11 and IDO or storage connector A-54X are damaged, repair or replace them. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection.
If the harness wire between security indicator connector C-108 and fusible link number 6 are damaged, repair them.Check that the security indicator illuminates and that the theft-alarm system operates normally.
If the harness wire is in good condition, go to Step 7.
STEP 7. Check the input signal.
Inspect the following inputs.
- key reminder switch
- Driver's and passenger's door switch
- Driver's and passenger's door lock key cylinder switch
- Driver's and passenger's door lock actuator switch
- Hood switch
- Liftgate latch switch
- Liftgate lock key cylinder switch
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to scan tool MB991502, always turn the ignition switch to "OFF" position before connecting or disconnecting the scan tool MB991502.
1. Connect scan tool MB991502 to the data link connector.
2. Check that the tone alarm of the scan tool MB991502 sounds when the input signal.
1. Use special tool MB991529 to connect a voltmeter between grounded terminal 4 or 5 and ETACS-ECU terminal 9 of the data link connector.
2. Check that the voltmeter indicator deflects once when the input signal.
If a malfunction is found in any of the input inspections, inspect the faulty input circuit.
If all operates are normal, replace the ETACS-ECU. Check that the security indicator illuminates and that the theft-alarm system operates normally.
