OIL PAN AND OIL STRAINER

Removal and Installation


REMOVAL


WARNING:
To avoid the danger of being scalded, never drain the engine oil when the engine is hot.
1.Drain engine oil. Refer to "Changing Engine Oil" Removal and Replacement.
2.Remove the oil filter. Refer to "Removal and Installation" Service and Repair.
3.Remove the front exhaust tube and gaskets. Refer to "Exploded View" Exploded View.
4.Remove the fender protector side cover (RH). Refer to "FENDER PROTECTOR : Removal and Installation" Removal And Installation.





5.Remove oil level gauge (1), oil level gauge guide (2), and O-ring (3).

CAUTION:
Do not reuse O-ring.
6.Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor 1 electrical harness connector.
7.Remove the front driveshaft (LH) and front driveshaft (RH). Refer to "Removal and Installation (Left Side)" Removal And Installation and "Removal and Installation (Right Side)" Removal And Installation.
8.Remove the connecting rod (LH) and the connecting rod (RH). Refer to "Exploded View" Exploded View.
9.Remove the tie rod end from the steering knuckle (RH) and the tie rod end from the steering knuckle (LH).
Refer to "Exploded View" Exploded View.
10.Remove the power steering gear bolts and support the power steering gear. Refer to "Removal and Installation" Removal And Installation.
11.Remove the rear engine mount torque rod bracket. Refer to "Removal and Installation" Removal And Installation.
12.Remove the front suspension member for clearance to remove the oil pan. Refer to "Removal and Installation" Removal And Installation.
13.Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical harness connector.
14.Remove the drive belt. Refer to "Removal and Installation" Removal And Installation.
15.Remove the A/C compressor bolts, position the A/C compressor aside and support. Refer to "COMPRESSOR : Removal and Installation" Removal And Installation.





16.Remove the lower oil pan bolts in the reverse order as shown, using power tool.





17.Remove the lower oil pan using Tool (A).

CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
NOTE:
In areas where the cutter is difficult to use, use a plastic hammer to lightly tap (1) the cutter where the liquid gasket is applied. Use a plastic hammer to slide (2) the cutter by tapping on the side.

18.Remove the oil strainer bolts in the reverse order as shown then remove the oil strainer.
19.Remove rear cover plate, and four engine-to transaxle bolts, using power tool.





20.Loosen the upper oil pan bolts in the order shown using power tool.





21.Remove upper oil pan using Tool (A).
- Remove the three O-rings from the upper oil pan and front cover.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
NOTE:
In areas where the cutter is difficult to use, use a plastic hammer to lightly tap (1) the cutter where the liquid gasket is applied. Use a plastic hammer to slide (2) the cutter by tapping on the side.

INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL

Clean the oil strainer screen to remove any foreign material.

INSTALLATION






1.Apply Genuine Silicone RTV Sealant or equivalent to the upper oil pan at the specified sealant bead diameter (A) as shown.
Refer to "Recommended Chemical Products and Sealants" Recommended Chemical Products And Sealants.
Sealant bead diameter (A) : 4.0 - 5.0 mm (0.157 - 0.197 in)

CAUTION:
- Install two new O-rings in the upper oil pan and a new Oring in the front cover.
- Do not reuse O-rings.
- Installation should be done within 5 minutes after applying liquid gasket.
- Do not fill the engine with oil for at least 30 minutes after the components are installed to allow the liquid gasket to cure.





2.Install the upper oil pan to the block and tighten the upper oil pan bolts to specification in the order shown.

All bolts except 18 and 19: 21.6 Nm (2.2 kg-m, 16.0 ft-lb)
Bolts 18 and 19: 8.8 Nm (0.90 kg-m, 78.0 in-lb)





3.Apply Genuine Silicone RTV Sealant or equivalent to the lower oil pan at the specified sealant bead diameter (A) as shown.
Refer to "Recommended Chemical Products and Sealants" Recommended Chemical Products And Sealants.

CAUTION:
- Installation should be done within 5 minutes after applying liquid gasket.
- Do not fill the engine with oil for at least 30 minutes after the components are installed to allow the liquid gasket to cure.

Sealant bead diameter (A) : 4.0 - 5.0 mm (0.157 - 0.197 in)





4.Install the lower oil pan to the upper oil pan and tighten the lower oil pan bolts to specification in the numerical order shown.
5.Installation of the remaining components is in the reverse order of removal.

INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION

Check for engine oil leaks with the engine at operating temperature and running at idle.
