Balance Shaft: Service and Repair

FORCE BALANCER ASSEMBLY

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Oil pan.
2. Balancer Assembly.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

FIGURE 13 - FORCE BALANCER ASSEMBLY:






1. Balancer assembly. Snug bolts to 12 Nm (9 ft.lbs.) in the following sequence: 3-1-2-4.
2. Following the same sequence, tighten the short bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft.lbs.) plus 60 degrees (one flat of the bolt head) and the long bolts to 15 Nm. (11 ft.lbs.) plus 90 degrees (one and a half flats).

IMPORTANT
^ Rotate engine to Top Dead Center (T.D.C.) on No. 1 and No. 4 cylinders.

Crankshaft Position:




^ Measure from block to first cut of double notch on reluctor ring.
^ Dimension should be 1-11/16" (42.8mm).

Counterweights Correctly Positioned:





^ Mount balancer with counterweights parallel and pointing away from crankshaft. Do not move crankshaft.
