REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Clutch release bearing. Attach the transaxle assembly to the transaxle holding fixture J 33366. Attach J 33366 to base plate J 3289-20.

2. Rear cover assembly together with seven bolts from the transaxle case.

3. Control box assembly together with four bolts from the transaxle case.

4. Using a screwdriver, shift transaxle into gear. Remove the crimps in the fifth speed drive and driven gear retaining nuts using the appropriate hammer and punch. Remove the retaining nuts from the input and output shaft and discard the retaining nuts. Shift transaxle back into neutral, aligning the detents on the shift rails.

5. Detent springs retaining bolts for 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, and 5th speeds, and remove the detent springs and detent balls. Reverse detent spring retaining bolts and remove spring and detent ball.

6. Place 5th speed synchronizer in neutral. Remove the roll pin at 5th gear shift fork and discard the roll pin. Remove 5th gear synchronizer hub, sleeve, roller bearing and gear with the shift fork as an assembly from the output shaft. Using J 35274, remover 5th speed gear from the input shaft.

7. Seven screws with Torx (No. 45) from the bearing retainer. Remove the bearing retainer, snap ring and shim from the output shaft.

8. Bolt used to retain the reverse idler shaft at the transaxle case.

9. Collar and thrust washer from the output shaft using puller J 22888 and legs J 22888-30.
10. Remove snap ring from input bearing groove.
11. Fourteen bolts retaining the transaxle case and separate the transaxle case from the clutch housing.
12. Backup lamp switch from transaxle.

13. Remove reverse shift shaft snap ring and pull up on the shaft until the interlock pin aligns with the reverse shift shaft detent (approx. 1/4-1/2 inch). Remove 5th shift shaft, then remove reverse shift shaft.

14. Reverse idle gear and reverse idle shaft indexing pin.

15. Using a punch and hammer, remove the roll pin from the lst/2nd shift fork and discard the roll pin. Slide lst/2nd shaft upward to clear housing and remove fork and shaft from case.

16. Clevis pin and then remove the pin and reverse shift lever.
17. Input and output shafts with 3rd/4th shift fork and shaft as an assembly.
18. Differential case assembly from clutch housing.
19. Reverse shift shaft from clutch housing.
20. Reverse shift bracket together with four bolts, and take out three 10 mm interlock pins.

21. Rear bearing outer races from the transaxle case. Use J 33370 with driver handle J 8092 for the output shaft race.

22. Outer races for the output shaft front and differential side bearings, using J 26941 with a slide hammer.
23. Input shaft front bearing from the housing, using J 41678 with J 8092.
24. Input shaft seal from the housing.
