B0687
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTIONThe SECURITY indicator lamp notifies the driver of the vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) system status. The theft deterrent control module controls the operation of the SECURITY indicator lamp. The SECURITY indicator lamp is part of the instrument panel cluster. Based on system status the SECURITY indicator may remain off, illuminate on steady, or flash.
CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
The ignition is ON.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
The theft deterrent control module detects an low current condition in the SECURITY indicator lamp control circuit for one second.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
- DTC B0687 and DTC B0689 cycle as current DTCs every five seconds in the theft deterrent control module.
- DTC B0687 is set as a history DTC in the theft deterrent control module's non-volatile memory.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC
- The theft deterrent control module no longer detects an low current condition in the SECURITY indicator lamp control circuit.
- A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive fault free ignition cycles.
- Using a scan tool in order to clear a history DTC.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
Refer to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections and Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Diagrams.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Steps 1-8:
2. Verifies the condition for setting the DTC is current.
3. Checks for an intermittent short to ground in the SECURITY indicator control circuit.
4. Checks the SECURITY indicator control circuit for a short to ground.
5. Determines whether the short to ground is in the instrument panel cluster or in the theft deterrent module.
