Roof Side Rail Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to SIR Warning SIR Warning.
Warning
Use care when working around the roof rail inflator module because sharp objects may puncture the roof rail airbag and the airbag will not deploy correctly.
In order to avoid personal injury, if any part of the module is damaged replace the entire module
Warning
When installing the roof rail airbag, do not twist or turn the airbag 360 degrees. Securing the roof rail airbag with an airbag twisted or turned 360 degrees may cause the airbag not to deploy correctly and could cause personal injury.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
2. Remove the headliner and the garnish moldings from the vehicle. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
Note: Remove all clips from the structure. Clips are designed for single usage only. The new inflator assembly will contain new clips.
3. Unsnap the SIR tether retainer and remove the tether from the windshield pillar.
4. Remove the fasteners and the clips from the SIR module.
5. Remove the SIR module from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Note: Position the module tether rearward of the molding attaching clips.
1. Unpack the new inflator assembly. Start at the rear of the vehicle and install the inflator module to the structure.
2. Working from the rear of the vehicle, install the retaining tabs to the structure to hold the inflator module in place.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
Note: Visually inspect the side curtain to assure that the curtain is not twisted.
3. Install the remaining side SIR module fasteners.
Tighten the fasteners to 5 Nm (44 lb in).
4. Install the hook on the curtain tether to the windshield pillar. Snap the hook retainer into place.
5. Install the headliner and the garnish moldings to the vehicle. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement Headlining Trim Panel Replacement.
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
7. After replacing the module, deploy the old module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Module Handling and Scrapping Procedures.
