Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair




Exhaust Manifold Replacement (1.8L)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the windshield wiper motor and link assembly. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement (Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement).
2. Remove the outer cowl top panel.
3. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the air fuel ratio sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1).




5. Remove the 4 bolts (1, 2, 3, 4) and the exhaust manifold heat insulator.




6. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe assembly (1, 2).




7. Remove the 3 bolts (1, 2, 3) and the manifold support bracket.




8. Remove the 5 nuts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and the exhaust manifold.
9. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.




10. Remove the 3 bolts (1, 2, 3) and the exhaust manifold heat insulator.

Installation Procedure





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

1. Install the exhaust manifold heat insulator with the 3 bolts (1, 2, 3) and tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb ft).




2. Install a new exhaust manifold gasket.
3. Install the exhaust manifold with the 5 nuts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and tighten to 21 Nm (16 lb ft).




4. Install the manifold support bracket with the 3 bolts (1, 2, 3) and tighten to 43 Nm (32 lb ft).
5. Connect the front exhaust pipe assembly.




6. Install the exhaust manifold heat insulator with the 4 bolts (1, 2, 3, 4) and tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb ft).
7. Install the air fuel ratio sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1).
8. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Install the outer cowl top panel.
10. Install the windshield wiper motor and link assembly. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement (Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement).
11. Inspect for exhaust gas leak.
