Immobilizer System Component Programming
Immobilizer System Programming Options
When programming the immobilizer system, the procedure you wish to complete or the component that has been replaced will determine which programming operation is required. The programming options are as follows:
* Adding additional master keys or sub keys - Refer to Procedure A
* Replacing/Reprogramming the theft deterrent key transponder - Refer to Procedure B
* Replacing/Reprogramming the engine control module (ECM) - Refer to Procedure C
* Erasing key codes - Refer to Procedure D
Procedure A - Registration of Additional Keys
This procedure will register an additional vehicle key to the vehicle using the scan tool. Up to 5 vehicle keys may be programmed to a single vehicle. The registration procedure will exit if the steps are not completed in the specified time.
If the ignition cylinder is replaced, remove the transmitter from the original master key and install onto a new key. Use this as the master key.
1. Turn the ignition ON with an already learned master key.
2. Within 120 seconds of turning the ignition ON, select Programming Additional Keys on the scan tool. The security indicator will be illuminated.
3. Within 20 seconds of selecting Programming Additional Keys, remove the master key from the ignition. The security indicator will remain illuminated.
4. Within 10 seconds of removing the master key, insert the key to be registered. The security indicator will blink. After 60 seconds, the key will be registered and the security indicator will not be illuminated.
5. If additional keys are required to be registered, begin at step 1.
Procedure B - Registration of the Theft Deterrent Key Transponder Communication ID
When the theft deterrent key transponder is replaced, the ECU communication ID of the ECM must be registered to the new theft deterrent key transponder. Engine starting will be disabled if the ECU communication IDs do not match.
Note:
* If the theft deterrent transponder key has been replaced, do not turn cycle the ignition more than 20 times before registering the ECU communication ID. Cycling the key more than 20 times will result in a locked theft deterrent transponder key.
* After the ECU communication ID has been registered, the vehicle may not start on the next attempt. Cycle the ignition and try a second time.
1. Ignition ON with a valid master key for 5 seconds.
2. Ignition OFF, install a 3 A fused jumper wire between terminal 4 and terminal 13 at the DLC.
3. Ignition ON for 30 minutes, set up the scan tool for SPS programming in a pass-thru arrangement. Select J-2532 Tech2 on the SPS terminal.
4. On the SPS terminal, choose the Vehicle Immobilizer Key Learn selection and follow the on-screen instructions. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) (Service Programming System (SPS)).
5. Cycle the ignition OFF and ON after programming has complete, then start the vehicle.
Procedure C - Registration of the Engine Control Module (ECM) Communication ID
When the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the ECU communication ID must be registered to the new ECM. Engine starting will be disabled if the ECU communication IDs do not match.
Note: After the ECU communication ID has been registered, the vehicle may not start on the next attempt. Cycle the ignition and try a second time.
1. Ignition ON with a valid master key for 5 seconds.
2. Ignition OFF, install a 3 A fused jumper wire between terminal 4 and terminal 14 at the DLC.
Procedure D - Erasing Key Codes
This procedure will erase all known vehicle key codes, except for the code of the vehicle key being used to perform the procedure. An example of when this would be required is if a customer were to lose a set of keys or have them stolen, the keys may be erased, making them unable to start the vehicle. After the key codes have been erased, any existing keys may be registered using Procedure A.
1. Turn the ignition ON with an already learned master key.
2. Select Programming Additional Keys on the scan tool. The security indicator will be briefly illuminated.
3. Within 10 seconds of the scan tool's instruction, turn OFF the ignition and remove the key.
4. At this point, the vehicle keys are erased. If vehicle key registration is desired, refer to Procedure A.
