REMOVING AND INSTALLING CONVERTIBLE TOP
Removing convertible top
Note! The cabriolet convertible top must be unlocked and the convertible-top compartment lid must be raised to its top position!
1 Removing side-panel linings
Unscrew the top fastening screw -1--2--3-
2 Detaching cloth covering
Disengage the strip -4--5-
3 Detaching tension cable
Press the ball socket of the tension cable -6-
4 Convertible top in service position up to model year 2002
Press tension bow -7-
Warning!
Damage to the convertible-top frame and rear glass window!
- The convertible top must not be moved forwards by the electric motor in service position!
5 Convertible top in service position as of model year 2003
Observe warning note. -8--9-
Open convertible top approx. 40 cm from windscreen frame. Detach the Velcro-fastening of the holding strap -8--9-
Note! After replacing the convertible-top or detaching the push bars and operating the convertible top, it is essential to carry out basic adjustment of the convertible-top gears to ensure it closes correctly. ZZZZZZ Page 125 'Adjusting convertible top gear'
6 Detaching restraining straps
On the cloth covering, disengage the left and right restraining straps -10-
7 Detaching push bar
At the main bow, press out the ball socket of the push bar -11-
8 Disconnecting microswitches
Disconnect the electrical plug connection at the microswitch -12--03.05.1999-
9 Detaching convertible-top support
Unscrew fastening screws -13--14-
Installing convertible top
1 Screwing convertible top to the roll-over bar
Position the convertible-top support on the roll-over bar and fasten it with the fastening screws -13--A and B-
2 Detaching push bar
At the main bow, press out the ball socket -11-
3 Attaching restraining straps
On the cloth covering, engage the left and right restraining straps -10-
4 Connecting microswitch
Connect the electrical plug connection at the microswitch -12-
5 Exiting "Convertible top in service position" procedure
Press the tension bow -7-
6 Convertible top in service position as of model year 2003
Detach holding strap -8--9-
7 Pressing in tension cable
Press the ball socket -6-
8 Attaching cloth covering
Engage the strip -4--5-
9 Installing side-lining panels
Insert the left and right side-lining panels -3--1--2-

Changes to convertible-top frame as of model year 2003
The following components of the convertible-top frame have changed as of model year 2003.
The tension bow steering lever -7- is deleted as of model year 2003 and replaced by the connection piece and joint -17- .

Overview of Convertible-Top Components Up to Model Year 1999
Convertible-Top Components Up to Model Year 1999:
The motor is activated if:
- no speedometer signals greater than 5 km/h (3 mph) are present
- the "convertible top unlocked" signal is connected to ground
- electric motor plug connection is plugged in
- the "convertible top unlocked" signal is connected to ground
- fuse B6 (row: B, number: 6) is in order
- terminal 15 is connected via ignition lock
- the parking brake input is connected to ground (parking brake engaged)

- Check microswitches and rocker switches for continuity.
- Operate "open convertible top" rocker switch (ground is connected to the "open" input)
