Air Injection Pump: Service and Repair

Technical values





Preliminary work

1. Remove engine compartment lid. -> 557819 Removing and installing engine compartment lid - section on "Removing" 557819 Removing and Installing Engine Compartment Lid
2. Remove intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3. -> 244619 Removing and installing intake-air distributor - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

Removing secondary-air pump

1. Loosen cable duct on the intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3 and pull it back slightly. Unscrew external Torx screw (M6 x 16) to do this.
2. Unclip plug connection -1- at the oil filler neck holder and disconnect it.

3. Unclip cable for knock sensor at the secondary-air pump.
4. Unscrew two external Torx screws (M6 x 50) used to secure the secondary-air pump to the bracket for the secondary-air pump.
5. Lift up the secondary-air pump and pull off the air hose -1- on the secondary-air pump.
Use a wooden or plastic wedge to do this.

6. Lift the secondary-air pump up and out.

Installing secondary-air pump

1. Connect air hose -1- and position secondary-air pump on the bracket.

2. Fit two external Torx screws (M6 x 50) used to secure the secondary-air pump to the bracket.=> Tightening torque: 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)
3. Clip in cable for knock sensor on the secondary-air pump.
4. Connect plug connection -1- and clip it onto the oil filler neck holder.

5. Secure cable duct on intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3. To do this, position the cable duct and screw in external Torx screw (M6 x 16).=> Tightening torque: 13 Nm (9.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Install intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 1-3.
2. Install engine compartment lid. -> 557819 Removing and installing engine compartment lid - section on "Installing" 557819 Removing and Installing Engine Compartment Lid
