Technical values
Preliminary work
1. Place protective covers on the vehicle to avoid damaging the body and passenger compartment.

3. Loosen fastening screws on power-steering pump pulley -> 489819 Removing and installing hydraulic pump - as of model year 2009 - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
4. Release drive belt. -> 137819 Removing and installing drive belt - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

Removing generator
Installation position of generator
1. Lower the engine.
1.1. Raise the vehicle with the lifting platform until you can work on the generator.
1.2. Position jack with a large attachment surface under the oil pan.
1.3. Screw off the four fastening nuts -2- on the engine mounting -1-.
1.4. Carefully lower the engine by about 5 cm using the jack until the engine mounting -1- is flush with the threaded bolts.
Lowering the engine
2. Loosen the fuel line above the air-conditioning compressor.
2.1. Pull the fuel line out of the brackets at the two rubber sleeves -1- ( -arrows- ).
2.2. Carefully press the fuel line up.
3. Unscrew fastening screws on power-steering pump pulley and remove the pulley.

4. Loosen the generator.
4.1. Unscrew both fastening screws -1- by three turns.
4.2. Tap the two fastening screws -1- lightly with an aluminium mandrel. This will reset the threaded bushes in the linkage levers and produce a certain amount of play for removing the generator.
4.3. Unscrew fastening screws -1-.
4.4. Lift the generator up over the holder -arrow A- and remove it by pulling it forward -arrow B- until the electric plug connections can be reached easily.

5. Disconnect electric plug connections.
5.1. Release -arrow A- and pull off -arrow B- connector.
5.2. Unclip the line from the generator at the retaining clip -arrow C-.
5.3. Open cover of terminal 30 line -arrow D- , screw off the nut -1- and remove terminal 30 line.
5.4. Remove the generator.
Disconnecting electric plug connections
Installing generator
1. Connect electric plug connections.
1.1. Fit the generator.
1.2. Position terminal 30 line and tighten fastening nut -1-. => Tightening torque: 18 Nm (13 ftlb.)
1.3. Close cover on terminal 30 line -arrow A-.
1.4. Clip in line on the generator using the retaining clip -arrow B-.
1.5. Plug in the connector -arrow C- until it engages securely.
Connecting electric plug connections
2. Install the generator.
2.1. Fit the generator -arrow A- and place it above the holder in installation position -arrow B-.
2.2. Tighten fastening screws -1-. => Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
Installing the generator
3. Secure the fuel line.
3.1. Using the rubber sleeves -1- , carefully press the fuel line into the two brackets -arrows-.

4. Secure the power-steering pump pulley with three fastening screws.
5. Raise and secure the engine.
5.1. Carefully raise the engine using the jack.
5.2. Screw on the four fastening nuts -2- on the engine mounting -1-. => Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)
5.3. Move the jack out of the work area.
Lifting the engine
Subsequent work
1. Install cover for rear underbody. -> 519419 Removing and installing cover for rear underbody - section on "Installing" 519419 Removing and Installing Cover for Rear Underbody
2. Fit drive belt. -> 137819 Removing and installing drive belt - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
3. Tighten fastening screws on power-steering pump pulley to the specified torque. -> 489819 Removing and installing hydraulic pump - as of model year 2009 - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
4. Install rear wall cover. -> 555919 Removing and installing rear wall cover - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
5. Connect the battery and carry out "Work instructions after disconnecting the battery". -> 2X00IN02 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery Work Instructions After Disconnecting the Battery
