4/23691, 4/23692

Fault Code 4/23691, 4/23692

Malfunction indicated
KDW actuator motor, wire adjustment not working

Fault symptom
TCS CTRL lamp on, no KDW adjustment, deterioration in shifting smoothness, reduced engine power.

Test procedure

1 Check the basic setting of the KD wire.

2 Clear the fault code, calibrate the system and drive the car on test with a warmed-up engine. Perform a number of kick-downs to see whether the fault code is set afresh. If it is, check the cable and the connection of the wire to the transmission.

3 If there is nothing in the cable/transmission which affects the KD wire, check the actuator motor for a mechanical fault as follows:
a. unplug the kDW motor's connector and remove the wire.
b. Move the lever back and forth to check whether the resistance it offers feels normal (the force of the spring should offer even and distinct resistance).
c. If it does not, change the actuator motor.
d. If the resistance offered by the motor's lever feels normal, check the pins in the motor and cable connectors. Then refit the wire and plug in the connector.

4 Connect a BOB to the ASR control unit. With the control unit disconnected and the ignition switched off, check that the resistance across terminals 23 and 24 is >2 ohms.
If it is not, change the KDW motor.

5 Clear the fault code, calibrate the system and drive the car on test with a warmed-up engine. Perform a number of kick downs to see whether the fault code is set afresh
If the fault code is set afresh, try another ASR control unit which is known to be OK.
