Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side




Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LCS) (3.6L Hybrid)

Removal Procedure

Note: The catalytic converter is serviced by replacing the entire assembly. Always replace the gaskets at the front and rear flanges when servicing the catalytic converter. Never install the original gasket.




1. Remove the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 2 (Service and Repair).
2. Lower the vehicle.
3. Reposition the underhood fuse block.Refer to Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement (HP7) (Service and Repair)Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement (HP5) (Service and Repair)
4. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector (1).




5. Remove the left side exhaust manifold heat shield bolts (1).
6. Remove the left side exhaust manifold heat shield.




7. Remove the left side catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts (1).
8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).




9. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler nuts (1).




10. Remove the left catalytic converter bolts.
11. Remove the catalytic converter gaskets.
12. Clean and inspect the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe gasket mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

1. Install the right catalytic converter nuts (1) to rear muffler.Tighten to60 Nm (44 lb ft).




2. Install the lower left catalytic converter to the right catalytic converter.Tighten to 46 Nm (34 lb ft)




3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Install the left side catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts (1) and tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).




5. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
6. Install the left side exhaust manifold heat shield bolts (1) and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).




7. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector (1) and tighten to .
8. Install the HO2S sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 2 (Service and Repair).
