P0336

Diagnostic Chart:

Schematic:

The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor defines engine position by generating an electrical pulse each time it passes by a notch of the crankshaft reluctor wheel. The EI module converts the A/C signal into a digital signal which is sent to the PCM on circuit 430 (7X ref). The PCM uses 7X ref signal for fuel delivery and spark timing.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P0336 will set if 7X resync counter is greater than 15 within 256 seconds when the following conditions have been met:
^ DTCs P0340 and P0341 are not set.
^ Engine is running.

IMPORTANT:
^ The CKP signal is continuously checked after the above conditions have been met.
^ Anytime a crankshaft position sensor is replaced, the crankshaft learn procedure must be performed. Failure to relearn may result in false misfire DTCs.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS

IMPORTANT: Make sure the crankshaft position sensor and 7X ref circuit wires are clear of other voltage interfering wires. EMI (electromagnetic interference) waves may offset a crank signal to the PCM, thus setting a DTC.
