Oil Pressure Check
OIL PRESSURE CHECKNOTICE: Use only oil with the American Petroleum Institute Certified for Gasoline Engines "Starburst" symbol. Failure to use the recommended oil can result in engine damage not covered by your warranty.
IMPORTANT: As shown in this chart, SAE SW-30 is best for your vehicle. However, you can use SAE 10W-30 if it's going to be -7° C (20° F) or above. These numbers on an oil container show its viscosity, or thickness. Do not use engine oil with viscosity rating such as SAE 10W-40, SAE 20W-50 and 30W as it does not meet Saturn recommended requirements.
Engine Additives:
Don't add anything to your oil. Your Saturn Retailer is ready to advise if something should be added.
IMPORTANT: The oil level should be 4.76 mm (3/16 inch) above or below the FULL line on the dipstick, after the engine's oil and filter have been changed. If the oil level is at or below the ADD line, check for oil leaks and add oil up to the FILL line.
1. Check engine oil level:
NOTICE: The cylinder block oil pressure sensor and plug threaded holes in the main oil gallery are not pipe threads. Use only the adapter provided in the gauge bar kit SA9127E kit or a M14 x 1.5-6 g threaded fitting F and seal.
2. Remove oil pressure switch.
IMPORTANT: A 19 mm (3/4 inch) crowfoot and 3/8 inch wobble drive extension (three inches long) will allow access to oil pressure sending unit nut for both removal and torquing.
3. Install oil pressure gauge, using service tool kit SA9127E. (LLO shown, L61 similar.)
4. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
IMPORTANT:
- A 19 mm (3/4 inch) or 24 mm (15/16 inch) crowfoot and 3/8 in. wobble drive extension (three inches long) will allow access to the oil pressure sending unit nut for both removal and torquing.
- Check for oil leakage after installing oil pressure switch.
5. Check oil pressure.
Oil Pressure at 1000 rpm: 344.75-531.60 kPa (50-80 psi)
Torque:
Oil Pressure Sensor-to-Block: 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.)
