Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution (SIR Caution).
1. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement).
2. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement (Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement).
3. Disconnect the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) steering wheel module coil electrical connectors.
4. Remove the SIR steering wheel module coil (2) from the steering column (1).
5. If replacing, discard the SIR steering wheel module coil.
Installation Procedure
1. To install the SIR steering wheel module coil, perform the following procedure:
1. Aim the wheels straight ahead.
2. Align the block tooth and the centering mark on the race and upper steering shaft at the 12 o'clock position.
Important: The new SIR steering wheel module coil will be pre-centered. Do not remove the centering tab from the new coil until the installation is complete. If the coil does not come with a centering tab, you must center it.
2. If centering is required, refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering (Procedures).

3. Slide the new SIR steering wheel module coil (2) onto the steering column (1).
4. Connect the SIR steering wheel module coil electrical connectors.
5. Remove and discard the centering tab from the new SIR steering wheel module coil.
6. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement (Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement).
7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement).
