Engine Front Cover Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill) (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the crankshaft position actuator magnet. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the thermostat housing. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LY7) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LZ4) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LAT) (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LZ4) (Service and Repair).
8. Remove the engine front cover bolts (1).
9. Remove the engine front cover.
10. Remove the engine front cover gasket.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the engine front cover gasket.
2. Install the engine front cover.
3. Apply sealant to the bolts in the locations pointed out (1) in the graphic. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants (Specifications).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).
4. Install the engine front cover bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
5. Install the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LZ4) (Service and Repair).
6. Install the thermostat housing. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LZ4).
7. Install the crankshaft position actuator magnet. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill) (Service and Repair).
