Oil Pan: Service and Repair




Oil Pan Replacement

EN 46109 Guide Pin Set

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture (Engine Support Fixture).
3. Remove the right side engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair).
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
5. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LY7) (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LAT) (Service and Repair)Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LY7) (Service and Repair)Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LE5) (Service and Repair).




8. Remove the oil pan bolts.
9. Remove the oil pan.
10. Clean the oil pan and the engine block gasket surface. Refer to Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the 8 mm (0.315 in) guides from the EN 46109 into the center oil pan rail bolt hole on each side of the engine block.




2. Place a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead (1) of RTV sealant, GM P/N 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) or equivalent, on the block pan rail and the crankshaft rear oil seal housing.




3. Position the oil pan onto the block.




4. Remove the EN 46109 8 mm (0.315 in) guides from the engine block.




5. Loosely install the oil pan bolts.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

6. Tighten the oil pan bolts in sequence.

* The 8 mm bolts (1-11) to 23 Nm (17 lb ft).
* The 6 mm bolts (12, 13) to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

7. Install the air conditioning (A/C) compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LAT) (Service and Repair)Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LY7) (Service and Repair)Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LE5) (Service and Repair).
8. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LY7) (Service and Repair).
9. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
10. Refill the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Install the right side engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair).
12. Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture (Engine Support Fixture).
13. Install the front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
