Starter Motor: Service and Repair




Starter Motor Replacement (LY7) (3.6L)

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LAT) (Service and Repair)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LZ4, LY7, and LE5) (Service and Repair).
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the left catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LY7) (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the knock sensor Bank 2. Refer to Knock Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 (Service and Repair).




5. Remove the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut.




6. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector.




7. Disconnect the starter motor bolts and the starter.

Installation Procedure




1. Position the starter motor to the engine block.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the starter bolts and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).




3. Connect the electrical connector to the starter.




4. Install the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut and tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb in).
5. Install the knock sensor Bank 2. Refer to Knock Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 (Service and Repair).
6. Install the left catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LY7) (Service and Repair).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LAT) (Service and Repair)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LZ4, LY7, and LE5) (Service and Repair).
