CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The vehicle speed sensor, located on the transmission, generates a signal in proportion to the vehicle speed (Signal 1). Receiving this signal, the speedometer uses it for operation of its indicator and also converts it into the ON/OFF signal by doubling the cycle (Signal 2). This signal is sent to ECM where it is used as one of the signals to control various devices.
DETECTING CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE
WARNING:
- When performing a road test, select a place where there is no traffic or possibility of a traffic accident and be very careful during testing to avoid occurrence of an accident.
- Road test should be carried out with 2 persons, a driver and a tester.
1. Clear DTC and warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Increase vehicle speed to 50mph, 80km/h in 3rd gear or "2" range while observing vehicle speed displayed on scan tool.
3. Release accelerator pedal and with engine brake applied, keep vehicle coasting (fuel cut condition) for 4 sec. or more.
4. Check pending DTC in "ON BOARD TEST" or "PENDING DTC" mode and DTC in "DTC" mode.

Oscilloscope waveforms
Connect oscilloscope between terminal E92-11 of ECM connector connected to ECM and body ground, and between terminal G19-13 of combination meter connector connected to the meter and body ground. Check vehicle speed signal and VSS signal.
DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
