DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
NOTE:
Check to make sure that the following conditions are satisfied when using this DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE.
- Intake air temp.: Between -14 °C and 70 °C (6.8 °F and 158 °F)
- Altitude (barometric pressure): 2400 m, 8000 ft or less (560 mm Hg, 75 kPa or more)
- Fuel level indication on meter cluster: 114 or more (For 1999 MY)
- Transmission gear shift lever is shifted in "Neutral" for M/T (In "P" position for A/T)
- Electric load (lighting, heater blower, rear defogger, etc) and A/C are turned OFF.
1. With ignition switch OFF, connect scan tool.
2. Turn ON ignition switch and clear DTC using scan tool.
3. Start engine and warm up to normal operating temperature (80 °C - 110 °C, 176 °F - 230 °F).
4. Run engine at idle speed (600 - 1000 r/min.) for 5 min. or more.
5. Check DTC and pending DTC.
Troubleshooting (Steps 1 - 8):
Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve Operation Check
Using SUZUKI scan tool
1. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC with ignition switch OFF
2. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
3. Clear DTC and select "MISC TEST" mode on SUZUKI scan tool.
4. Check that idle speed increases and/or reduces when IAC valve is opened and/or when closed by SUZUKI scan tool.
If idle speed does not change, check IAC valve and wire harness.
Not using SUZUKI scan tool
1. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Check that idle speed increases and/or reduces when ECM C20-28 terminal is connected by service wire and/or when connector is disconnected from IAC valve.
If idle speed does not change, check IAC valve and wire harness.
Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve Check
1. Disconnect connector from IAC valve.
2. Check for proper connection to IAC valve at each terminal.
3. Check IAC valve for resistance.
Resistance between two terminals: 8.6 - 10.6 Ohms at 20 °C, 68 °F
Resistance between terminal and valve body: Infinity
If check results are as specified in steps 2. and 3., proceed next step. If not, replace.
4. Connect connector to IAC valve.
5. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
6. Disconnect connector from IAC valve and check engine idle speed.
7. Connect 12 V-battery to IAC valve as shown in figure with engine running and check engine idle speed.
CAUTION: Wrong connection cause IAC valve to burn, connect each wire to correct terminal.
Engine idle speed observed in step 7. should be higher than engine idle speed observed in step 6..
If check result is not specified, replace IAC valve.
