DTC Detecting Condition and Trouble Area






DTC Confirmation Procedure

NOTE:

Check to make sure that the following conditions are satisfied when using this DTC confirmation procedure.

- Intake air temp.: -14 °C, 6.8 °F or higher.
- Altitude (barometric pressure): 2400 m, 8000 ft or less (560 mmHg, 75 kPa or more).

1) With ignition switch turned OFF, connect scan tool.
2) Turn ON ignition switch and clear DTC using scan tool.
3) Start engine and run it for 30 sec. or more.
4) Check DTC and pending DTC.

DTC Troubleshooting

1.
Was "Engine System Check" performed?
YES
Go to Step 2.
NO
Go to Engine System Check Engine System Check.

2.
Does fuel level meter in combination meter indicate "E" (empty)?
YES
Replenish fuel tank with fuel and go to Step 3.
NO
Go to Step 3.

3.
Do you have the SUZUKI scan tool?
YES
Go to Step 4.
NO
Go to Step 5.

4. Fuel level sensor output signal check with SUZUKI scan tool.

Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC with ignition switch turned OFF.
Turn ON ignition switch and check fuel level displayed on scan tool.

Is 0% displayed?
YES
Go to Step 6.
NO
Intermittent trouble or faulty ECM.
Check for intermittent referring to Intermittent and Poor Connection Inspection.

5. Fuel level sensor output signal check.

Disconnect connectors from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
Remove ECM from vehicle body and then connect connectors to ECM.
Turn ON ignition switch and measure voltage between "G04-19" terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage about 3.5 V or more?
YES
Go to Step 6.
NO
Intermittent trouble or faulty ECM.
Check for intermittent referring to Intermittent and Poor Connection Inspection.

6. Fuel level sensor circuit resistance check.

Disconnect connectors from ECM.
Measure resistance between "G04-19" terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is resistance below 140 ohms?
YES
Go to Step 7.
NO
Go to Step 10.

7. Fuel level sensor output signal circuit check for short.

Turn OFF ignition switch and then disconnect connectors from combination meter referring to Combination Meter Removal and Installation.
Disconnect connectors from ECM.
Turn ON ignition switch and measure voltage between "G04-19" terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage 0 V?
YES
Go to Step 8.
NO
"YEL" or "YEL/RED" wire shorted to power supply circuit.

8. Fuel level sensor output signal circuit check for open.

Connect connectors to combination meter with ignition switch turned OFF.
Measure voltage between "G04-19" terminal and vehicle body ground with ignition switch turned ON.

Is voltage below 3.5 V?
YES
Faulty ECM. Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
NO
Go to Step 9.

9. Check ECM voltage.

Turn OFF ignition switch and then disconnect connectors from combination meter.
Connect connectors to ECM.
Turn ON ignition switch and measure voltage between "G04-19" terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage below 0.1 V?
YES
Faulty combination meter.
NO
Fuel level sensor circuit are OK, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.

10. Fuel level sensor output signal circuit check for open.

Turn OFF ignition switch and then disconnect connectors from combination meter referring to Combination Meter Removal and Installation.
Disconnect connector from ECM.
Measure resistance between "G04-19" terminal and "YEL" wire terminal in combination meter harness connector with ignition switch turned OFF.

Is resistance below 10 ohms?
YES
Go to Step 11.
NO
"YEL" wire in open or high resistance circuit at between ECM harness connector and combination meter harness connector.

11. Fuel level sensor output signal circuit check for open.

Remove fuel tank referring to Fuel Tank Removal and Installation Fuel Tank Removal and Installation
and then disconnect connector from fuel pump.
Connect connectors to combination meter.
Turn ON ignition switch, measure voltage between "YEL/RED" wire terminal fuel pump harness connector and body ground.

Is voltage 3.5 - 5.5 V?
YES
Go to Step 12.
NO
"YEL/RED" or "YEL" wire open circuit.

12. Fuel level sensor ground circuit check for open.

Measure resistance between "BLK/ORN" wire terminal fuel pump harness connector and body ground.

Is resistance below 5 ohms?
YES
Go to Step 13.
NO
"ORN" wire in open or high resistance circuit.

13. Fuel level sensor circuit check for high resistance.

Measure resistance between "YEL/RED" wire terminal fuel pump harness connector and "G04-19" terminal in ECM harness connector.

Is resistance below 10 ohms?
YES
Go to Step 14.
NO
"YEL/RED" or "YEL" wire in high resistance circuit.

14. Check fuel level sensor.

Check fuel level sensor referring to Fuel Level Sensor Inspection.

Is it good condition?
YES
Faulty combination meter.
NO
Faulty fuel level sensor.
