Ignition System Check






Ignition System Check

1.
Was "Engine System Cheek" performed?
YES
Go to Step 2.
NO
Go to Engine System Check Engine System Check.

2. Ignition spark test

Check all spark plugs for condition and type referring to Spark Plug Inspection Spark Plug Inspection.
If OK, perform ignition spark test referring to Ignition Spark Test Ignition Spark Test.

Is spark emitted from all spark plugs?
YES
Go to Step 8.
NO
Go to Step 3.

3. DTC check

Perform DTC Check referring to DTC Check DTC Check.

Is DTC stored in ECM (PCM)?
YES
Go to applicable "DTC Diag. Flow".
NO
Go to Step 4.

4. Electrical connection check

Check for proper connection to each ignition coil assembly at each terminal and at spark plug.

Are they connected securely?
YES
Go to Step 5.
NO
Connect securely.

5. Ignition coil assembly power supply, ground and trigger signal circuits check.

Check these circuits for open and short.

Are circuits in good condition?
YES
Go to Step 6.
NO
Repair or replace.

6. Ignition coil assembly check

Substitute a known-good ignition coil assembly and repeat Step 2.

Is spark emitted from spark plug(s)?
YES
Malfunction of ignition coil assembly.
NO
Go to Step 7.

7. CMP sensor and its circuits check

Check CMP sensor power and ground circuits for open and short, and CMP sensor for signal Voltage referring to Steps 3, 4 and 5 of P0340 DTC P0340: Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

Are check results satisfactory?
YES
Substitute a known-good ECM (PCM) and repeat Step 2.
NO
CMP sensor malfunction or wire harness open or short.
If the above is OK, substitute a known-good ECM.

8. Ignition timing check

Check initial ignition timing and ignition timing advance referring to Testing and Inspection Ignition Timing Inspection and Adjustment.

Is check result satisfactory?
YES
System is in good condition.
NO
Adjust ignition timing or check ECM input signals related to this system.
