Front Wheel Alignment Inspection and Adjustment

Preparation for Front Wheel Alignment Inspection and Adjustment

Before inspecting and adjusting front wheel alignment, perform the following items.

- Place vehicle in unloaded state on level surface.
- Set steering wheel in straight state.
- Check that inflation pressure of each tire is adjusted properly and wheel is free from deflection.
- Check that each suspension part is free from bend, dent, wear or damage in any other form.
- Check that ground clearance at the right and left is just about the same.

Toe Inspection

Measure toe with toe-in gauge (1).

If toe is not within specified value, adjust it at the tie-rod.





Front toe (Total)
("b" - "a")
: IN 1.0 +/- 1.0 mm (0.0393 +/- 0.0393 in.)










Toe Adjustment

NOTE:

The rack boot may break if it is twisted.

Make sure that the rack boot does not get twisted during adjustment of front wheel alignment.

NOTE:

Never adjust only right or left tie-rod, be sure to adjust both tie-rods by same amount.

1) Check tie-rod length referring to Initial Position Setting Tie-Rod End Initial Position Setting:Hydraulic Type or Initial Position Setting Tie-Rod End Initial Position Setting:Electric Type.

If necessary, adjust tie-rod length.
2) Loosen tie-rod end lock nuts.
3) Adjust right and left tie-rods by same amount to align toe to specification.
4) After adjustment, tighten lock nuts to specified torque referring to Removal and Installation Tie-Rod End Removal and Installation:Hydraulic Type or Removal and Installation Tie-Rod End Removal and Installation:Electric Type.
5) Check steering angle referring to Steering Angle Inspection and Adjustment Steering Angle Inspection and Adjustment.

Reference Information

Side slip (On one person)
: IN 3.0 to 0 mm/m (IN 0.118 to 0 in./3.3 ft)

Toe angle

Check for front toe angle with total wheel alignment tester or the like.

Front toe angle (Each wheel)
Other than 17 inch wheel model: IN 1' +/- 2'
17 inch wheel model: IN 3' +/- 2'

If front toe angle is out of specification, measure toe with toe-in gauge and then adjust it at the tie-rod.
