Manual Transaxle Unit Components
Dismounting
1) Remove battery and tray with ECM. Service and Repair
2) Remove air cleaner assembly. Air Cleaner Assembly Removal and Installation
3) Remove clutch fluid pipe. Clutch Fluid Pipe Removal and Installation
4) Disconnect back up lamp switch connector and undo wiring harness clamps.
5) Disconnect gear shift and gear select control cables (1) from transaxle.
6) Remove earth cable from transaxle.
7) Remove starting motor. Starting Motor Removal and Installation
8) Remove transaxle-to-engine bolts (1) of upper side.
9) Drain transaxle oil. Removal and Replacement
10) Remove engine under covers.
11) Remove front bumper. [1][2]Diagrams
12) Remove drive shaft assembly and center shaft. Front Drive Shaft Assembly Removal and Installation
13) Remove front suspension frame.
- 2WD model: Front Suspension Frame, Stabilizer Bar and/or Bush Removal and Installation (2WD Model)
- 4WD model: Front Suspension Frame, Stabilizer Bar and/or Bush Removal and Installation (4WD Model)
14) Remove engine front mounting member and mounting member referring to step 5) to 7) in "Removal" under Oil Pan and Oil Pump Strainer Removal and Installation Oil Pan and Oil Pump Strainer Removal and Installation.
15) For 2WD model, remove engine rear mounting No.2 bracket. [1][2]Diagrams
16) Remove clutch housing lower plate. Oil Pan and Oil Pump Strainer Components
17) Support transaxle with transmission jack.
18) Remove engine left mounting (1) and engine left mounting bracket (2).
19) Remove transaxle-to-engine bolts (1) and nut (2) of lower side, and then lower transaxle.
Remounting
NOTE:
Failure to take proper precautions when remounting the manual transaxle can cause damage to parts.
- When raising the transaxle for installation, be careful not to let the drive shaft scratch the oil seal. Oil leaks may occur if the oil seal lip is scratched by the drive shaft.
- Do not use a hammer when installing the drive shaft joint into the differential gear. Hitting the drive shaft joint with a hammer will damage the joint.
Reverse dismounting procedure for remounting of transaxle, noting the following points.
- Tighten each bolts and nuts to specified torque.
- Front drive shaft: Locations
- Starting motor: Starting Motor Removal and Installation
- Front suspension frame:
- 2WD model: Front Suspension Frame, Stabilizer Bar and/or Bush Removal and Installation (2WD Model)
- 4WD model: Front Suspension Frame, Stabilizer Bar and/or Bush Removal and Installation (4WD Model)
- Mounting member: [1][2]Diagrams
- Clutch housing lower plate: Oil Pan and Oil Pump Strainer Components
- Manual transaxle: Manual Transaxle Unit Components
- Engine left mounting bracket: [1][2]Diagrams
- Engine left mounting: [1][2]Diagrams
- Engine front mounting member: Oil Pan and Oil Pump Strainer Removal and Installation
- Set each clamp for wiring securely.
- Fill transaxle oil. Removal and Replacement
- Connect battery and check function of engine, clutch and transaxle.
