Generator Inspection

Generator Disassembly and Reassembly

Generator Components

Rotor

1) Using ohmmeter (1), check for continuity between slip rings (2) of rotor. If there is no continuity, replace rotor.

Standard resistance between slip rings of rotor
2.5 - 3.0 ohms

2) Using ohmmeter (1), check that there is no continuity between slip ring (2) and rotor core (3). If there is continuity, replace rotor.

3) Check slip rings and rotor fan surface for roughness or scoring. If they are rough or scored, replace rotor.

Bearing

Check bearing for smooth rotation.

If abnormality is found, replace bearing.

Stator

1) Using ohmmeter (1), check continuity between all pairs of leads (2). If there is no continuity between any lead pairs, replace stator.

2) Using ohmmeter (1), check that there is no continuity between any of coil leads (2) and stator core (3). If there is continuity, replace stator.

Brush and Brush Holder

Check each brush for wear visually.

Replace brush, if it is worn down close to wear limit line (1).

Generator brush length
Standard: 18.5 mm (0.728 in.)
Limit: 5.0 mm (0.197 in.)

Rectifier

1) Using ohmmeter, check continuity between the following terminals.
- "B" terminal (1) and each diode lead (3)
- "E" terminal (2) and each diode lead (3)
Check continuity in both directions by interchanging the probes.

Rectifier is normal if there is continuity only in one direction.

If there is no continuity or there is continuity in both directions, replace rectifier (4).

Pulley

- Check pulley for wear, damage or other abnormal conditions.
- For CVT model, check pulley according to the following procedures.

a Fix center of pulley.
b Check that pulley locks up when turned in clockwise direction [a] and rotates smoothly in counterclockwise direction [b]. If faulty condition is found, replace pulley.
