DTC Clearance

DTC Clearance

Pending and Confirmed DTC

1) Connect CAN communication OBD generic scan tool or SUZUKI scan tool to DLC. DTC Check
2) Turn ignition switch to ON position.
3) Erase DTC and pending DTC according to instructions displayed on scan tool. Refer to scan tool operator's manual for further details.

If communication between scan tool and TCM is not possible, go to Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures Troubleshooting for Communication Error with Scan Tool Using CAN.
4) After completing the clearance, turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect scan tool from DLC.

NOTE:
Pending and confirmed DTC and freeze frame data stored in TCM memory are also cleared in the following cases. Be careful not to clear them before keeping their record.
- When power to TCM is cut off (by disconnecting battery cable, removing fuse or disconnecting TCM connectors).
- When the same malfunction (DTC) is not detected again during 40 engine warm-up cycles.
- Even though the pending and confirmed DTCs are cleared, the permanent DTC will not be cleared.

Permanent DTC

1) Connect CAN communication OBD generic scan tool or SUZUKI scan tool to DLC. DTC Check
2) Turn ignition switch to ON position.
3) Clear the pending and confirmed DTCs.
4) Select the permanent DTC mode on scan tool. (Refer to scan tool operator's manual for details.)
5) Execute the corresponding DTC confirmation procedure in the DTC diagnostic flow and confirm that the pending and current DTCs cannot be detected. At this time, if the DTC confirmation procedure does not satisfy any of the following conditions, execute the DTC confirmation procedure so as to satisfy such condition.
- The engine operated for more than 12 minutes.
- The vehicle driven for more than 6 minutes at more than 45 km/h (28 mile/h).
- The engine idled for more than 1 minute.
6) Display the permanent DTC on scan tool and check that the permanent DTC is cleared.

If the permanent DTC has not been cleared, repeat step 5) again.
