P0851
P310 HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL: HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM: P0705-757: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit
DTC P0705-757 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit
DTC P0705-758 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit
DTC P0851-775 - Park / Neutral Switch Input Circuit Low
DESCRIPTION
The shift lever position sensor can send 8 different switch signals to the hybrid vehicle control ECU. The hybrid vehicle control ECU uses the signals to detect the shift lever position (P, R, N, D, or B). The hybrid vehicle control ECU also uses this information to determine intended direction of travel (forward or reverse).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE
1. CLEAR DTC (HV)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(d) Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
(e) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(f) Clear DTCs and freeze frame data.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SHIFT POSITION)
(a) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data list / Shift Sensor SW-P, Shift Sensor SW-R, Shift Sensor SW-N, Shift Sensor SW-D, Shift Sensor SW-RV, Shift Sensor SW-FD, Shift Sensor SW-MJ.
(b) While slowly moving the shift lever from the P to B position, then back to P, read the data list (shift position) displayed on the Techstream.
HINT: Be sure to move the shift lever slowly.
Result:
(c) Check if DTCs are output.
OK:
DTCs P0705-757, P0705-758, and P0851-775 are not output.
NG -- CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
(a) Check for intermittent problems Check For Intermittent Problems.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA
OK -- REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
4. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
(a) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR - BODY GROUND)
OK -- REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR - BODY GROUND)
(a) Disconnect the shift lever position sensor connector.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
NOTE: Turning the power switch on (IG) with the shift lever position sensor connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR)
(a) Turn the power switch off.
(b) Disconnect connectors B3 and B2 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
(c) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
NOTE: Turning the power switch on (IG) with the Shift lever position sensor connector and hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.
(e) Turn the power switch off.
(f) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (Check for open):
Standard resistance (Check for short):
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE SHIFT LEVER POSITION SENSOR
