P310 HYBRID BATTERY CONTROL: HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM: P0AD3-123: Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 3 Control Circuit High
DTC P0AD3-123 - Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 3 Control Circuit High
DESCRIPTION
The speed of the battery blower assembly is controlled by the hybrid vehicle control ECU. Battery blower assembly power is supplied from the FCTL terminal of the hybrid vehicle control ECU by the battery blower relay when it is turned on. The hybrid vehicle control ECU sends command signals (S0, S1 and S2) to each battery blower assembly to get the fan speed corresponding to the HV battery temperature. Information of the voltage applied to each battery blower assembly (VM0, VM1 and VM2) is sent to the hybrid vehicle control ECU as a monitor signal via serial communication by the battery smart unit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
- Before inspecting the high-voltage system, take safety precautions to prevent electrical shocks, such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.
- After disconnecting the service plug grip, wait for at least 5 minutes before touching any of the high-voltage connectors or terminals.
HINT: At least 5 minutes is required to discharge the high-voltage capacitor inside the inverter with converter assembly.
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (DTC P0A1F-123 IS OUTPUT)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(d) Read output DTCs Hybrid Battery System.
Result:
B -- GO TO DTC CHART Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions (P0A1F-123)
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VM2 VOLTAGE)
CAUTION: Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.
(a) Remove the service plug grip Components.
(b) Remove the battery cover Components.
(c) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(d) Turn the power switch on (IG) and the Techstream on.
(e) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Active Test / Driving the Battery Cooling Fan.
(f) Select each air volume mode (1 to 6) in the "Driving the Battery Cooling Fan" active test to operate the battery cooling blower assembly.
(g) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below while the cooling fan is operating.
Standard voltage:
HINT:
- Compare the values in each air volume mode (1 to 6).
- If the power switch is turned on (IG) with the service plug grip removed, DTC P0A0D-350 for the interlock switch system will be stored. If this DTC is output, clear the DTC using the Techstream.
NG -- CHECK BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK HV BATTERY (BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR)
CAUTION: Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.
(a) Disconnect the z33 and z34 connectors from the battery smart unit Components.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the conditions and value(s) in the tables below.
Standard resistance:
(c) Disconnect the z18 connector from the battery smart unit.
(d) Measure the resistance according to the conditions and value(s) in the tables below.
Standard resistance:
NG -- REPLACE HV BATTERY ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. INSPECT BATTERY SMART UNIT
(a) Connect the z18 battery smart unit connector.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
NOTE: Turning the power switch on (IG) with the service plug grip removed causes an interlock switch system DTC (P0A0D-350) to be set. Use the Techstream to clear the DTCs.
(d) Reconnect the battery smart unit connector.
NG -- REPLACE BATTERY SMART UNIT
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. INSPECT BATTERY SMART UNIT
(a) Disconnect the z19 battery current sensor connector from the HV relay assembly Components.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
NOTE: Turning the power switch on (IG) with the HV relay assembly (battery current sensor) connector disconnected causes DTC P0AC2-123 to set. Use the Techstream to clear the DTCs.
NG -- CHECK BATTERY PACK WIRE (BATTERY SMART UNIT - BATTERY CURRENT SENSOR)
OK -- REPLACE HV RELAY ASSEMBLY
6. CHECK BATTERY COOLING BLOWER ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: Be sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles.
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / VMF Fan Motor Voltage 1 to 3 and Temp of BATT TB 1 to 8.
HINT: It is easier to see the change in the VMF Fan Motor Voltage when displayed in the line chart.
(c) Perform a road test and check that there is a malfunction in the VMF Fan Motor Voltage 3 while the battery cooling blower is operating. (*1)
HINT: The fan operates when the battery temperature is approximately 97°F (36°C) or more.
(d) Remove the battery cover and replace the battery cooling blower assembly with another battery cooling blower assembly Components.
(e) Install the battery cover.
(f) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / VMF Fan Motor Voltage 1 to 3 and Temp of BATT TB 1 to 8.
HINT: It is easier to see the change in the VMF Fan Motor Voltage when displayed in the line chart.
(g) Perform a road test and check that a malfunction in (*1) is reproduced in another battery cooling blower.
